Life and Works of Dr. Jose Rizal (RIZ133)

This course deals with the study of the life and writings of Dr. Jose Rizal. Among the topics covered are Rizal's biography and his writings, such as the novels Noli Me Tangere and El Filibusterismo, some of his political and historical writings, and various correspondences.

Security, Governance, and Development (SGD231)

This course explores the dynamic interplay between security, governance, and development, putting emphasis on their interdependence in achieving sustainable peace and progress. It considers an analytical assessment and critical survey of the relationship of governance to national security, providing the cadets with a theoretical and practical understanding of their future role in implementing policies relative to peace and security. Cadets will examine key theories, frameworks, and case studies to understand how governance structures and policies influence security outcomes and development paths.

Law and Discipline (LAW231)

This course is a three (3) unit subject presenting to the cadets the fundamentals of law, specifically the laws pertaining to the state and its relationship with its citizens, basic criminal laws, and the military justice system. As well, it includes a study of laws, relevant to the cadet training and discipline. This course fills the gap existing between cadet knowledge of the PMA systems (CCAFP, Honor System, CCPB) the AFP Military Justice System, relevant national laws (Civilian Supremacy Law, Anti Hazing Law, Anti Sexual Harassment Act, Anti Torture Law) and the Constitutional precepts of due process.

Psychology (PSY232)

The course deals with the nature of identity, as well as the factors and forces that affect the development and maintenance of personal identity. This course is intended to facilitate the exploration of the issues and concerns regarding the self and identity for one to arrive at a better understanding of oneself, and thereby become more effective in his/her tasks as a future officer in charge of the country's national security. It strives to meet this goal by stressing the integration of the personal with the academic — contextualizing matters discussed in the classroom and in everyday experiences of the cadets — making for better learning, generating a new appreciation for the learning process, and developing a more critical and reflective attitude while enabling them to manage and improve their selves to attain a better quality of life.

War and Its Theorists (WIT332)

This Course covers the evolution of military thoughts from ancient to modern period. This is an interdisciplinary study delving into the realm of other disciplines such as history, geography, economics, political science, psychology and sociology. The Course is concerned with the analysis of the contributions of military thinkers from the different ages to the field of military strategy especially in the evaluation of political, economic, social, cultural and military aspects of warfare especially on the elements of Combat Power. It also deals with the nature of war (total or limited), conventional and unconventional warfare, terrorism and anti- terrorism, as well as the modes and patterns of strategy that have evolved and are presently developing. In addition, the Course aims to assist the cadets in shaping or formulating their own military philosophy.

History of Military Arts (HMA431)

History of Military Arts is a 3-unit course offered to First Class Cadets. This course offers a wide-range of historical background and analysis that are highly relevant to the cadets' professional life as future officers of the Armed Forces of the Philippines. It deals with the study of warfare throughout the history of mankind. It is global in scope, including not only the more familiar battles in Western Civilization but also the pivotal ones in some parts of Asia. It also analyses key land battles, naval clashes and aerial fights using the Battle Analysis Methodology. Tactics, strategy and leadership are the focal points in the study of battles. Furthermore, this course specifically delves on the evolution of warfare, blunders of war, decisive battles and the most enduring lessons in military history.

International Law & International Humanitarian Law (LAW432)

This is a 3-unit course that covers the core concepts in international laws & International Humanitarian Law, within the landscape of peace and security. International law is a body of accepted rules and principles which regulate the conduct of States and other international people as they interact in the world community. International Humanitarian Law or also known as Law on Armed Conflict is a distinct branch of international law that sets rules in times of armed conflict between or among states and non-states actors.

Philippine Military History (PMH432)

Philippine Military History traces the development of the Armed Forces of the Philippines from the colonial era through the present day. It deals with the changes and continuities in various facets of Philippine military history such as civil-military relations; in doctrine, strategy, tactics, technologies, and operations; and in the experience of soldiering, in combat and behind the lines, in wartime and peacetime. The course allows the cadets to examine character and behavior of the armed forces, its role in both domestic and international armed conflict, and its impact on the Philippine security environment. The course contextualizes the Philippine military experience within larger historical frameworks — social, cultural, political, economic, and technological. Cadets will emerge from the course with a good general understanding of the historical development of the Armed Forces with a mature intellect and inspiration to lead, to achieve results in both training and in combat.
